Sunrun President Lynn Jurich Joins Sierra Club Foundation Board of Directors

San Francisco, CA - October 7, 2010 -

Sunrun, the nation’s leading home solar company, today announced the company’s President and Co-founder Lynn Jurich has joined The Sierra Club Foundation Board of Directors. A public charity, The Sierra Club Foundation helps finance the Sierra Club and other grassroots environmental organizations focused on public education, litigation and training. Jurich has already begun to assist with specific Foundation-funded campaigns and is currently involved with the Sierra Club California’s “No on Prop 23” initiative to help voters understand the negative implications of Prop 23. If passed, Proposition 23 will suspend a critical California law that curbs greenhouse gas emissions and stifle investment and job growth in the clean tech sector.

“The Sierra Club Foundation’s commitment to activism and education around clean energy aligns directly with Sunrun’s mission to provide affordable solar to every homeowner,” said Jurich. “Advancing clean energy and environmental awareness is both a personal and professional passion of mine, and I welcome the opportunity to join The Sierra Club Foundation community and work with other leaders on this cause.”

Sunrun offers homeowners a solar power service, which means they can have rooftop panels installed for as little as $0 down and simply pay monthly for solar electricity. Homeowners save up to 15% right away and control their electricity costs over time. A full-service alternative to the utility, Sunrun owns, monitors, maintains, and insures the panels at no additional cost. Jurich developed the idea during business school at Stanford University with Co-founder Ed Fenster after an impactful first-hand experience with the extreme pollution in Shanghai, China.

“Lynn’s vision for creating a clean alternative to the utility is commendable and it’s particularly relevant to specific Sierra Club Foundation-funded campaigns like the Sierra Club’s highly-successful Beyond Coal Campaign,” said Peter Martin, executive director of The Sierra Club Foundation. “The Sierra Club Foundation thrives because of support and strategic guidance from our board members, and Lynn will be a valuable part of our team.”

Jurich has earned distinguished honors since co-founding Sunrun in 2007. In December 2009 she provided recommendations at Obama’s White House Green Jobs Summit, and she was a featured panelist at a Scientific American conference for having one of “Twenty World Changing Ideas.” Jurich was also named to Fortune Magazine’s list of 10 Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs, and she and Fenster are 2010 Ernst & Young Entrepreneurs of the Year.
