Marni's Story
The downtown San Jose Solar Project Committee chose Sunrun's affordable solar power service.
In the Fall of 2007, Marni and a few of her neighbors, including Joe and Lynette, formed a committee to encourage downtown San Jose homeowners to install photovoltaic systems. Their goal was to have as many San Jose solar homes as possible in the easiest and most affordable way.
"We came together," said Marni, "to investigate the feasibility of contracting with a solar energy vendor who could install high quality systems on individual homes at an affordable rate."
After the committee's initial research – interviewing San Jose installation companies, surveying homeowners, and reviewing home solar quotes - they decided to go with Sunrun.
After the project, downtown San Jose homeowner Lisa reflected, "I wanted to do solar for a very long time but I'm a single woman so it's been too expensive to think about doing it. And the logistics of going through all the research, looking at all the companies, deciding who's going to install it, finding someone to do all the maintenance -- it's kind of overwhelming." Fortunately, Sunrun made switching to photovoltaics easy and affordable for Lisa.
Everyone agrees that the downtown San Jose solar project was a huge success, largely because of the hard work of so many community leaders. In the end, there were 36 San Jose solar homes!
"We knew that people wanted to go solar, we knew that people had problems because of the cost. And that was one of the main reasons why it was so beneficial to the community to have Sunrun. It just makes it a much easier thing to do."
