In January 2008, Hawaii and the U.S. Department of Energy established the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative, setting an aggressive goal to help reduce Hawaii's dependence on oil and increase production of renewable energy. With a goal of getting 40% of Hawaii's energy needs from clean power by 2030, Hawaii encourages homeowners to switch to solar power by offering solar incentives.
When you switch to solar with Sunrun, we file all applicable and necessary paperwork and pass along the savings in your low upfront cost. We take the guess work out of going solar and complete all the paperwork for you.
Hawaii offers a solar tax credit of 35% of the system's costs, or $5,000 (whichever is less). Homeowners can choose to take this solar tax credit as a tax refund for 70% of the value of the credit. This Hawaii solar tax credit can be used alongside the Federal investment tax credit.
Under Bill 58, passed in September 2009, a home solar system is exempt from property taxes for 25 years. This means that your system will not increase your property tax liability.
