Born and bred a southern gal in rural North Carolina, Diane grew up in a house she calls “green by default” – a country home with no indoor plumbing or electricity. Reared in green principles of conservation and alternative life styles, Diane was excited to look into solar energy when they purchased their new home in 2007.

Her family’s life grew quite hectic, however, and a home solar system got moved to the back burner. But, Diane and and her husband, Mark, “never lost sight of putting home solar panels” on their roof.
After two years, Diane and Mark contacted a Sunrun installer partner and restarted their investigation into solar power. While Massachusetts incentives helped sweeten the deal, the exact costs did not make much of a difference to the family of six. “We would have purchased the panels, regardless,” Diane explained, but with Sunrun, “it was a much better deal.” For Mark, a businessman, installing photovoltaic panels with Sunrun was “an opportunity to establish a relationship with a good company.” For Diane, she saw this as a perfect opportunity to integrate green principles into her family’s lives.
Overall, they liked what Sunrun stood for and considered the company a good fit for who they were as a family. They saw Sunrun as a “financially and fiscally responsible way to go solar” and loved that Sunrun partnered with local solar installers. For a family very much involved in their neighborhood and community, supporting local companies was important.
Diane is very happy with her solar rooftop – “I’m proud as punch.” Sunrun stickers grace her house windows, the Sunrun tote bag holds the baby’s diapers, the family entered the Sunrun Holiday lights contest last December, and Diane and Mark often speak of their rooftop panels at community meetings around the Boston area. “We’re happy to teach our kids,” Diane said.
