Over 50% of New Jersey's electricity comes from nuclear power, and almost 20% comes from coal power.

New Jersey is a leader in home solar. With close to 4,000 residential solar installations, New Jersey solar is second only to California in total installations, at only a fraction of California’s size. It’s not surprising as New Jersey’s state government offers plenty of New Jersey solar incentives, including rebates under the Renewable Energy Incentive Program (REIP) and an ambitious New Jersey Solar Renewable Energy Certificate (SREC) program that allows homeowners to sell their energy credits in a New Jersey clean energy marketplace.

New Jersey recently adopted an Energy Master Plan which includes a goal of generating 30% of the state’s electricity from renewable sources like solar by 2020! New Jersey supports programs that make it easier for residents to participate.

You can sell your New Jersey solar energy credits on the market with the NJ Solar Renewable Energy Certificate tracking system (SREC). Electricity suppliers, otherwise subject to a solar Alternative Compliance Payment, purchase these SRECs to meet the requirements of New Jersey’s Solar Renewable Portfolio Standard. As of right now, you can sell one year’s worth of SRECs for approximately $4500 for a 7kW New Jersey solar system. But, with each year, the SREC market value is expected to decrease.
