Do I get the rebates for my solar system?
Because SunRun owns the system, we get both the state solar rebate and federal solar rebate. They get passed through to you in our prices and the advantage is that you don't have to cover the cost and wait for the state government and the IRS to pay them out.

Why is there any upfront payment with SunRun Power Plan?
Both the solar lease and solar PPA variations of SunRun Power Plan have a small upfront cost. Paying some money upfront gets you higher savings overall and greater flexibility over time compared to lower or zero money down options. Some upfront cost also means we'll never need to charge you for additional services later. SunRun's Full System Management is complementary for our 18 year agreement and any renewal periods.

Does SunRun get the benefits of selling power back to the utility?
Nope. Your relationship with your current utility company is the same whether you go solar with SunRun or with another company. When your system produces more energy than your home is currently using, you - not SunRun - get the credits from the utility company.

Who installs my system?
We've partnered with the most experienced solar installation companies to build your system. Because we guarantee your power, we partner with only the best installers that we've thoroughly vetted on your behalf. We're home solar service experts and we don't try to be experts in anything else.

What happens if I move?
SunRun's full-service solar solutions were designed to be flexible and to maximize your home's resale price. In fact, many homeowners choose SunRun because they know they're going to move and they want to be able to transfer some of the cost of solar to the new buyer. You can choose between the following three options:

  • 1. Transfer the agreement
This option lets you share the cost of solar with the new homeowner; they pick up the contract where you left off. Plus, the new buyer doesn't have to worry about the equipment because SunRun takes care of all solar maintenance. There's no charge for transferring the agreement.
  • 2. Pay out the remainder of the 18-year contract
Paying for the rest of the new homeowner's solar power means they'll enjoy free electricity and maintenance with no further bills from SunRun. You can mark up your home's resale price accordingly.
  • 3. Purchase the system
Your agreement tells you the buyout price for specific years. If you go this route, the new homeowner won't get our free maintenance and repairs, but they will have full ownership of the system with the home.

How long is the agreement?
18 years with optional yearly renewal periods.

What if the new homeowner doesn't want SunRun?
It's important to note that homebuilders are discovering that homes with solar are selling faster and for higher prices than those without solar. If the new homeowner really didn't want to save money on electricity, you could buy out the system from SunRun and have the system removed.

What happens if I replace my roof?
It's best to replace your roof before going solar. If your roof needs maintenance during our agreement, you can unhook your system for 7 days without being charged for the power that should have been produced during that time. We're happy to coordinate the removal and reinstallation, but that cost is not covered in our agreement.

If there's new technology, will you upgrade my system?
Because SunRun owns your system, we'll upgrade the technology if it makes sense. Of course, once you've installed a system, it's best to keep it until you've gotten your money's worth. Unlike computers or other equipment that produces a better product as technology improves, electricity is a commodity. If the system has been sized properly to meet the electricity needs of your home, new technologies will not offer any production advantages.

How does the money-back guarantee work?
If your panels make less than we promise, we'll refund you for every unit of power you don't get. Your agreement will tell you the amount of your refund. We pay refunds every year starting in your 3rd year as a customer.

Does SunRun put a lien on my home?
Absolutely not. The agreement you have with SunRun specifically says that there will be no lien, mortgage, or deed of any kind put on the solar system or assessed against your property.

Does SunRun have a valid contractors' license?
All of SunRun's solar installation contractors have valid contractors' licenses. We would be happy to provide you with those numbers if you'd like.

Now that I've signed a SunRun agreement, when will the installation happen and when can I turn on my system?

  • SunRun and your installer begin the rebate and interconnection process with your utility company.
  • Your installer will create the design for your SunRun solar electricity system. The design serves as the document used to specify the construction and permitting requirements for your system. If you did not review system design with your installer during the sales process, you will have an opportunity to review at this point.
  • Your installer will coordinate with you to schedule your installation.
  • SunRun will send you an invoice for your initial payment, which will be due at the start of your installation.
  • Once installation has begun, your system should be built within 2-8 business days.
  • Your system will be inspected for proper installation.
  • Your utility will authorize the system to be turned on. Depending on your utility company, either utiltiy personnel will turn on your system or your installer will walk you through the process.
  • You are now producing renewable energy!
