Arizona Solar Incentive Details
Several Arizona utilities reduced the amount they pay for residential solar incentives in April 2010. Upgrade to home solar with SunRun now to take full advantage of the best rebates before they drop again.
Arizona Public Service (APS) offers a solar rebate of $1.95/Watt DC and may reduce that amount further based on expected performance of the home solar system.
Salt River Project's (SRP) EarthWise Solar Energy Incentive Program offers $2.15/Watt DC through April 30, 2011.
Sulphur Springs Valley EC (SSVEC) SunWatts Rebate Program offers a choice of rebates for photovoltaic system up to 10 kW and/or that cost less than $75,000. Customers may choose either $3.00/Watt DC or a production-based incentive of $0.108 per kWh to $0.202 per kWh, depending on the length of the agreement and whether the system is connected to the grid.
Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and Trico Electric Cooperative offers up-front incentives for photovoltaic systems of $3.00/Watt DC.
UniSource Energy Services (UES) offers a rebate of $3.00/Watt DC and may reduce that amount based on expected energy production.
Arizona's Solar Energy Credit is available to individual taxpayers who install a solar energy at their residence. The credit is allowed against the taxpayer's personal income tax in the amount of 25% of the cost of a solar system, with a $1,000 maximum allowable limit. The credit is claimed in the year of installation. If the amount of the credit exceeds a taxpayer’s liability in a certain year, the unused portion of the credit may be carried forward for up to five years.
Finally, Arizona provides a sales tax exemption for the retail sale of solar energy devices and some city-based incentives as well. For example, Tucson offers a credit for the amount paid for a building permit up to a maximum of $1,000 for the installation of a qualifying solar energy system. To qualify, the proposed system must be capable of displacing a minimum of 1,500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year at the building site. While building permit fees are credited under this program, plan review fees still apply.
